Primera parte
La primera parte transcurrió de manera aburrida sin muchas ocasiones por parte de ambos equipos, mostrándonos un gran despliegue físico. El Barcelona apenas inquietaba el área vasca, mientras que el Athletic se encontraba muy cómodo en el campo.
El enorme trabajo físico de jugadores como Dani García y Unai Vencedor en la zona de medio anulaban completamente a Messi y Pedri. El Barcelona dejó clara la evidencia, que ya nos dejó entrever en la semifinal frente a la Real, y es la ausencia de un punta. Un punta que fije a los centrales para que los compañeros puedan crear superioridades y ganar los duelos individuales. En la final vimos excesivamente cómodos a Íñigo Martínez y Yeray, que eran capaces de saltar en la ayuda al medio y a la banda porque nadie atacaba el espacio que ellos dejaban. La realidad fue que el Barca no fue superior en ningún momento del encuentro y que los goles llegarón en jugadas puntuales.
En el minuto 40, se propiciaría un desajuste defensivo en la defensa vasca que haría que Jordi Alba entrara solo por banda, tras una buena apertura de Messi, y centrara a Griezmann para que pusiera el 1-0 en el marcador. No volveríamos a tener noticias de Leo Messi hasta su expulsión.
La alegría le duraría poco al conjunto culé, porque en la primera jugada del Athletic, tras el gol del Barcelona, pondría las tablas en el marcador. Un centro con música de Williams dejaría en bandeja a De Marcos el 1-1.
Segunda parte
La segunda parte fue casi un “copia y pega” de la primera parte. El partido pedía la entrada la entrada de Braithwaite y el Barca tenía mas llegadas, pero no había una sensación real de peligro.
Los minutos pasaban y en el minuto 77, una buena combinación entre Jordi Alba y Dembélé dejaría a Griezmann rematar a placer para adelantarse en el marcador y sellar un doblete en su casillero personal.
En el minuto 83 se produciría la acción que cambiaría el partido por completo: se retira del campo Raúl García y salió en su lugar el “búfalo de Gernika” (Asier Villalibre) . En el minuto 90, tras un centro a balón parado, Villalibre mandó el balón al fondo de la red, poniendo el empate en el marcador y mandando el partido a la prórroga.
Prórroga
La prórroga significó un enorme esfuerzo físico de ambos equipos. El héroe fue Iñaki Williams que, en el minuto 93, lanzó un maravilloso disparo hacia el palo largo imparable para Ter Stegen, dejando el título muy cerca para el conjunto dirigido por Marcelino.
Un Marcelino, cuya táctica defensiva fue formidable. Dejó secos a Pedri y al gran Leo Messi durante todo el partido y su equipo fue anulando poco a poco al Barcelona por medio de ayudas constantes y faltas tácticas, que siempre estaban al borde de la amarilla y que no permitían al conjunto de Koeman superar líneas en conducción.
En el último minuto del partido, Villalibre podría la guinda a su gran trabajo por desquiciar al Barcelona y provocaría un cruce de cables en la cabeza de Leo Messi. La frustración se apoderaría del astro argentino y este provocaría un fuerte manotazo al delantero vasco, que causaría al roja directa y una nefasta imagen.
El Athletic se llevó la Supercopa de España. Un premio al trabajo y al esfuerzo de los jugadores y de todo el cuerpo ténico.
Los MVP del partido
En el Barcelona nuestro elegido es De Jong. El holandés fue la pieza que no supo mantener vigilada el Athletic. Genial en la conducción y en la recepción, siempre pidiendo la pelota hasta en los momentos más difíciles del juego. Aparte del holandés, también hubo actuaciones individuales de mucho mérito como las de Araújo y Ter Stegen, con un perfecto manejo del balón con los pies.
El Athletic fue una máquina perfectamente engrasada, desde el sólido Íñigo Martínez hasta el jefe de la sala de máquinas Muniain, pero si hay que quedarse con uno, tiene que ser la pantera. Iñaki Williams hizo un partido magistral con un gol y una asistencia de una categoría brutal.
